ONE Strategy For Generating Profitable Longtail Keywords For Your Niche

Review of Longtail keywords

In the previous post I explained  How To Define Your Niche With Longtail Keywords.  Remember that longtails are preferable because they are less competitive and increase blog ranking in the search engines, especially when combined with on - page optimization strategies. I will share on this later.

Today, I want you to walk through one strategy for finding and generating profitable longtail keywords for your niche.  This strategy will be taught by Brendan Mace, an internet marketer whose work I subscribe to because his techniques are simple, and like most of his colleagues, he is quite generous.

How to do POWERFUL Keyword Research in ONLY 10 Minutes

In this video, Brendan shares a simple strategy for combining two FREE keyword research tools. They are:

  • Ubersuggest and
  • Google Keywords Tool

a. How to start

  1. Log into Google Keyword Planner  using your Gmail account.
  2. Open the Keyword Planner and select the second option titled get search volume data and trends.
  3. Go to UberSuggest.org
  4. Enter your niche in the search field. You need to begin with short tails in order to generate the longer phrases.
  5. Click on each suggested keyword to open more options, showing you all the available long tail keywords
  6. Highlight all of the keywords, copy, and paste into Google Keyword Planner.

 b. What to do in Google Keyword Planner

  1. Click on get search volume at the bottom of the box.

  2. You can download the entire list of longtail keywords, along with the relevant information, into an excel spreadsheet.
  3. Open the file and pay attention to:
  • name of the keyword - remember to  focus on sentences that have at least five to eight phrases and that are relevant to your niche. In the previous post on defining the niche, we saw that the conversion rate increases when the keyword is longer and highly targeted.
  • relevance of the keyword to the niche - you need to analyze each keyword for its RELEVANCE to your niche.  You should ideally have started your search with a list of  content areas that you are looking for, then comparing your list to the findings. Think about what the searcher is likely to be looking for and see if any interesting ideas emerge as you scan the list.
  • average monthly searches - the keyword should have a minimum of at least 100 searches per month.
  •  the advertising bid or CPC (cost per click) for each keyword - this should be at least 0.80 cents.The advertising bid is the amount of money that advertisers spend in order to get traffic to their websites. The more they spend on advertisement, the more valuable the niche is to them.
You would still need to sort your keywords in order to determine how you can organize them into a content structure that is suitable for your blog. Until we get there, I encourage you to try out the strategy. Cheers.

How To Define Your Niche With Longtail Keywords

Update on the issue of niches

It's been a long time coming, but I finally got around to the issue of blog content. To get you thinking, I asked the question, "What Big Baaaad Idea Should You Blog About?"  then shared a  "Big List OF 1221 Ideas To Blog About."

Your niche is the specialized product or service you offer while a keyword is  a phrase that describes the niche. Here are two important points to pay attention to:

  1. Keywords are important because they are the terms or phrases that searchers use to find your content online.
  2. When a potential target audience search for content online, they use two types of keyword phrases which can be described as
  • longtail or
  • shorttail

What are longtail keywords?

These  are phrases that contain at least three to five words, while short tail keywords contain one or two words. For example:

 - blogging is a shorttail keyword while
          -  how to blog. how to blog on Google are  long tail keywords

Five advantages of using long tail terms on your blog

In an article titled The Resurgence of Long-Tail Keywords in SEO, DeMers (2013) identified five benefits of using longtail rather than shorttail keywords to define or describe your niche:

    ALT="http://how-to-blog-on-google-blogspot.blogspot.com"
  • First, although long tail keywords do not have as high volume traffic, they are less competitive in the search engines than keywords with shorter phrases.

    • The most useful benefit, in my mind, is that long tail keywords are very specific to the niche. In other words, they give a very clear description about blog content to the searcher, and adapt to the way people think when they are searching online for information. As a result, your blog content is easier to find online.

      • visitors spend more time on the blog because you have delivered relevant content that  they are searching for.
        ALT="http://how-to-blog-on-google-blogspot.blogspot.com"

        • visitors are more likely to engage with products that you have to offer.

          Research on long term keyword keywords confirm that:
          • search engine ranking increases by several pages in the search engines when longtail keywords are twinned with onpage optimization and that
          • Long-tails converted (resulted in a purchase) two and a half times more than short tail  terms (Miller 2011).

          ALT="longtail keywords"
          Three strategies for targeting long tail keywords
          I found three useful recommendations for targeting the long tail keyword on your blog:

        • you should create relevant, meaningful, descriptive titles for posts and
          pages that consist of about eight to thirteen words.
            • include long tail generated content that is produced by blog visitors and users. These include their comments and reviews.

            I hope this post will help you. Pay attention to the images which illustrate how very specifically you can define your niche with long tail terms.
